15 Expert Tips to Use Before, During and After Deep Cleaning the Garage

1. As you are cleaning up, think about purchasing a strong shelving unit for your garage walls

2. Remove big items (worktables, vacuums, etc.) for more cleaning space

3. Pick up small things, such as tools, decorations and separate by category. See Above. Lay down the number of tarps you require and put your piles of stuff on each tarp. Different colored tarps help keep the piles from spilling into each other and help you easily get into your "work-rhythm

4. Make sure that only the stuff you want to sell (or keep) goes back into the garage

5. Look up at the ceiling and walls and sweep both, double checking for hiding spots for insects and critters. Clean behind and under anything against the walls, around window ledges, including the gap between the drywall and the floor

6. Plug any holes with spray foam insultation, make small repairs, and caulk

7. Wipe down surfaces and tops of large tools, workbenches and tables

8. If you decided to put in strong shelves, paint, or install light fixtures or change light bulbs, do so at this time

9. Sweeping the whole floor twice, taking care of oil spills and then damp mopping it again with a recommended concrete floor cleaner is a good idea if the floor is not painted. If it is painted, mop the floor with hot soapy water and rinse. Use an air mover to dry the floor, either way
